Pennies from the Heart

Pennies from the Heart is a fun, easy and competitive way to support the Ronald McDonald House program of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Why should I participate?

Ronald McDonald House relies heavily on the support of the community to provide a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill children.  The proceeds of a “Pennies from the Heart" competition will help the hundreds of families that use our House each year.

What are the rules?

Compete as individuals or teams.  If in teams, split into groups by departments, floor, class, gender, etc.  Try to create some competition between the groups!  Collect pennies in a container for each team that is kept in a centralized location that is accessible to the opposing team.  Participants can deposit paper money or silver coins into the opposing team’s container which negates the value of the equivalent number of pennies. The contest can last as long as you like. We suggest a week to a month.  The winning team will be decided based on the total number of pennies (minus any paper money and silver coins).

How can your company, school or group get involved?

  • - Designate a coordinator for the “Pennies from the Heart” competition.
  • - Call the Ronald McDonald House and let us know about your participation.
  • - Inform everyone participating so that they can begin collecting right away.
  • - Design the competition to fit your needs.  Decide how individuals or teams will compete, and how you will reward the winners.
  • - Have FUN and take lots of photos!
  • - Bring your penny collection to the Ronald McDonald House at the end of the competition or send a check with photos and story about your event.

“Pennies from the Heart” can be a great team building event or a great way to teach kids about giving to others.  Don’t forget to honor the winner(s) with a prize, plaque, casual day, extra hour for lunch, etc.  Get creative with your reward and don’t forget… have FUN!
