In the early eighties, a progressive group of community members examined the changing healthcare landscape within Marshfield and the future need for housing for families of pediatric families that were traveling a long distance to rural Marshfield for their care. Communities throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states responded to the plea for funds to renovate existing homes suitable for a Ronald McDonald House.
Marshfield converted this home into a Ronald McDonald House in 1983, less than 10 months after our Board’s first meeting. The Ronald McDonald House of Marshfield was opened on December 7, 1983, as the first Ronald McDonald House within Wisconsin.
To this day, there are only three Ronald McDonald Houses within Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, and Marshfield.
